Transportation

It takes only about five minutes from JR Tohoku Honsen Line Matsushima Station to our hotel on foot.
It takes approximately 24 minutes by train from Sendai Station to “Matsushima”, one of the three most scenic spots of Japan.
Walk along the river from Matsushima Station, and you will see Matsushima Hotel Waraku. It is a very convenient place to access nearby tourist spots.

    Zuiganji Temple

    Zuiganji Temple is Date Masamune’s family temple, and it represents the authentic architecture of the Momoyama Period.
    Especially the drawings on the doors, transoms, sliding doors, and floors are widely known as one of the most renowned examples of natural beauty portrayed artificially.

    Important cultural asset of Japan that symbolizes Matsushima
    Godaido

    Godaido is widely known as a building that represents Matsushima, and is designated as an important cultural asset of Japan.
    Godaido was built by Date Masamune in 1604 by utilizing the top-quality Momoyama style architectural techniques.
    On the curved wooden support on all four sides of Godaido are carvings of the twelve horary signs.

  • Yukan/Ogitani

    One of “Shidaikan”, a place with a breathtaking view
    Yukan/Ogitani

    Yukan is one of the four places of “Shidaikan” from where visitors can enjoy the view of 260 islands floating on Matsushima bay.
    Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Mtasushima.
    On top of Yukan is located what used to be a tea house for feudal lords, and the maple trees welcome visitors with a tasteful atmosphere in autumn.
    There is a limit on the capacity of the nearby parking lot.

    Located in Matsushima Town, Miyagi Prefecture, known as one of the three most scenic spots of Japan
    Entsuin

    Entsuin is a mausoleum of Mitsumune, the second son of Tadamune, the second feudal lord of Sendai Clan.
    It was influenced by the Western culture imported from Europe by Hasekura Tsunenaga. On the inner side of the right door of the miniature shrine is what is said to be the oldest drawing of Western roses.
    They used white, red, and green on top of the gold leaf. They also used patina and corals for the materials, so the color stays the way it is permanently.

    Where you can enjoy the history of Date Masamune
    Michinoku Date Masamune Historic Museum

    A historic museum where visitors can learn about Date Masamune, a heroic icon of the age of civil wars in Japan.
    The statue of Date Masamune on a horse is breathtaking.
    Approximately 200 life-size wax figures portray the life of Date Masamune in twenty five different settings.
    Aside from Date Masamune, 50 life-size wax figures of great persons of Tohoku are located at the museum.

  • Fukuurashima

    Designated as a prefectural natural botanical park
    Fukuurashima

    Fukuurashima is an island floating on the east side of Matsushima bay, and the entire island is designated as a prefectural natural botanical park of Miyagi. Inside the pine forest are over 250 kinds of plants and trees, such as camellia, maple, and bamboo.
    It is connected by “Fukuurabashi Bridge”, a 252 meter long vermillion bridge, and also known as “Deaibashi (bridge of good match-making).” The entrance of the bridge closes at 5PM (4:30PM), so we recommend you to take notice of the weather, season and time of your visit.
